Basic Flower Arrangements You Need to Know
Flower arrangements may not be as difficult as you may think. There are just eight basic arrangements, which differ only in shape of the design. Nonetheless, each arrangement has three necessary details: focal flowers, line flowers and filler flowers.
First, the horizontal arrangement is a low form with a length twice the height. Its classical design is symmetrical with a similar length and style on both sides. There is another type called the asymmetrical or horizontal interpretive arrangement. This is composed of flowers with its own individuality.
In this arrangement, containers are usually shallow and line flowers are glued on the edge. While focal flowers are placed in the middle, filler flowers are put around the focal area.
Second, the vertical arrangement is a tall form with small width. Two types of this arrangement include classic vertical and interpretive vertical arrangement. The stems of the tallest flowers must be thrice the height of the container. The focal flower is placed vertically within the diameter of the container, and then filler flowers fill the vacant space.
Fundamentally, the line flowers are positioned to form a triangle in the fourth type the triangular arrangement. The height must be more than the width. Then, the focal flower is placed at slightly lower middle of the container to provide weight and balance.
The next type is the oval arrangement, which is common to funeral stands. In making this form, the largest and brightest flowers are placed in the focal area while filler flowers are placed around the focal flowers. Meanwhile, line flowers should form an oval shape and fill the outer edges.
Sixth, the crescent arrangement is asymmetrical, yet the proportion is balanced at every angle. In this arrangement, flowers or leaves that follow the crescent form are used. The focal flower is placed somehow low in the container. The filler flowers are also smaller to provide balance and stability.
Seventh, the fan arrangement has two types: the classically shaped fan and the fan-interpretive. This arrangement requires long and strong stemmed flowers such as gladiolus, and ester to name a few. The fan interpretive offers more versatility in creativity while maintaining the fan shape.
Lastly, the dome arrangement is a round shape. It uses a medium high container. This arrangement is simply done by distributing same flowers around the container. Unlike the classic dome arrangement, the dome interpretive has fewer flowers and is not exactly round shape.
