Collecting Dolls

Are Antique Dolls the Priciest Dolls?

As a child, I have always thought that something antique ought to be something expensive. And it is true. Yes, until now antique dolls are the most expensive dolls to collect because they are no ordinary dolls that kids can play with.

These collectible antiques are typically made using porcelain or paper mGchT, or other materials like wax and wood. Others also used porcelain and bisque for making such dolls. However, the most basic dolls produced were those dolls made from wood which were popularly called "Queen Anne" dolls.

They say the most expensive antique dolls are the bisque dolls which are believed to cost more than $200,000. But still, the most expensive doll in the world is the L'Oiseleur, or the Bird Trainer, priced at $6.25 million. It is a 4 feet high robot doll which has about 2,340 metal parts and is proficient of making music by playing the flute.

In fact, collecting antique dolls is an expensive hobby meant for royal queens in the 19th century. From the dolls, the queens are educated about the history of 19th century Europe particularly England, France and Germany. It is unimaginable but yes, such playthings can depict the history and fashion trends of earlier age including the then fashionable clothing, hairstyles and footwear. That is why many wealthy people who can afford to find the finest antique dolls grab the ones they love, because they have historical significance in our lives.

And until now, even grown-ups are into the hobby of collecting beautiful dolls. One such aficionado of doll collection was Queen Elisabeth of the country Romania, who was so fond of collecting antique dolls that she needed a number of train cars to transport her dolls for a charity show.

Perhaps you are asking what makes these antique dolls the most expensive dolls. Well, each antique doll is considered a historical artifact, and collecting and discovering these dolls will surely revive memories of the past well over 200 years when the first dolls were manufactured. The dolls are generally made of bisque, china, wood, or wax. but there are what are called the early composition dolls and the early celluloid dolls which have become a part of the mid-20th century vintage dolls. Really, there are quite a lot of kinds of dolls but they all share one purpose, and that is, to serve as a child's plaything. Truly, a girl's childhood will never be complete without having played enjoyably with our own set of dolls!
