Why Barbie Dolls are called Barbie?

Every success has its share of story. And one intriguing question I have always asked as a young girl passionate about dressing up my Barbie Dolls is where did Barbie come from, really? Why is my doll's name Barbie?

Through the years, Barbie Dolls have been a very famous toy doll for young girls all over the world. This very popular doll has been passed on from generations to generations, loved by young girls and even young female adults. The success of Barbie may be attributed to the fact that the doll gives these young girls a world of their own where they can pretend and imagine what it is actually like to be grown-ups living the grown-up world.

The doll was named Barbara Millicent Roberts, or simply Barbie, after the daughter of Mattel Toy Company co-founder named Ruth Handler in the 1950s. She had a daughter named Barbara who just adored playing with adult looking dolls. And so on March 9, 1959, Barbie was first launched by Mattel Toy Company at a Toy Fair in New York. She was first introduced as either a blonde or brunette in pony tails with bangs, wearing a black and white swimsuit, accentuated with eyes of white irises, blue eyeliner, and arched eyebrows. The beautiful doll drew attention all over the world which definitely, paved the way to the success of Barbie.

Barbie never got the chance to be boring for kids since Mattel regularly introduces different careers for the doll, as well as a wide assortment of style and fashion, actually, the biggest wardrobes in the entire world designed by fashion designer Charlotte Johnson. Barbie takes on a variety of careers such as model, pilot, doctor, nurse, flight attendant, teacher and several other professions, showing that women can take a stand on different issues as well as carry out a range of important roles in our society. Barbie teaches the world to embrace differences in ethnic identities. As a matter of fact, any part of the world you go, ask every girl about the name "Barbie" the Doll, and everyone is sure to know.

Over the years, the Barbie Doll continues to evolve, changing her fashion styles and trends, hair styles and friends, reflecting a more contemporary and up-to-the-minute Barbie. This is why collecting Barbie dolls has already become one habit most people who really adore Barbie have started on. It has surely put the biggest smile on their faces.
